We get this question a lot: "Should I clean before the cleaner comes?" No. But a 10-minute pickup makes a massive difference in what your cleaner can accomplish. They're there to clean, not organize. Here's how to prep.
The 10-Minute Pickup
These small actions let your cleaner focus on actual cleaning:
- ✓Put dishes in the dishwasher or stack them neatly in the sink
- ✓Pick clothes up off the floor and furniture
- ✓Clear off countertops (bathroom and kitchen)
- ✓Put away personal items you don't want moved
- ✓Make sure all rooms are accessible (unlocked doors, clear paths)
Communication Is Everything
Leave a note or send a text about anything specific. Maybe the stovetop needs extra attention, or you want the inside of the fridge done this visit. Maybe there's a stain on the tile you'd like them to try. The more specific you are, the happier you'll be with the results.
Also let them know about any products you prefer or want avoided, whether you have pets, and if there are areas you don't want touched.
Supplies and Access
If your cleaner brings their own supplies (we do), make sure they can reach the kitchen sink for water. If you want them to use your specific products, leave them out on the counter.
For access: if you won't be home, arrange a key, garage code, or lockbox ahead of time. Our cleaners confirm when they arrive and when they leave so you always know what's happening.
What Not to Worry About
Don't feel embarrassed about the state of your home. We've seen everything. Literally everything. Your "messy" house is someone else's Tuesday. We're there to make it better, not to judge. The whole point is that you don't have to deal with it yourself. Get in touch and we'll take care of the rest.
